    What is a platform?

Platforms like Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram etc offer a framework within which to publish content.

This could be text, video, images, live content (e.g. Facebook Live or Periscope)

    Which Platforms?

I use the following platforms for my work online:

    • YouTube – video publishing
    • Facebook – for marketing content and building a network.
    • Twitter – for marketing content and building a network.
    • Instagram – posting images, marketing and building a network.
    • Skillshare – publishing educational content on a paid-for platform.
    • Curious – publishing educational content on a paid-for platform.
    • WordPress – self-hosted platform at www.benhalsall.com
    • 500px – for publishing photographic or design work

    Digital Footprint

    What is a digital footprint?

This can mean a variety of things but from the perspective of a professional it is essential the digital trail you have left on the internet over the years that you have used it. This can be visible or invisible content. Content on sites such as facebook is often visible by default.

    Different Types of Footprint

“There are two main classifications for digital footprints: passive and active. A passive digital footprint is created when data is collected without the owner knowing, where as active digital footprints are created when personal data is released deliberately by a user for the purpose of sharing information about oneself by means of websites or social media.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_footprint

    Skillshare (2010)

“Online classes at Skillshare can be created by anyone who wants to teach. The courses, which are not accredited, accept anyone who wants to learn. The majority of courses focus more on interaction than lecturing, with the primary goal of learning by completing a project. The main categories of learning are creative arts, design, entrepreneurship, lifestyle and technology, with subtopics covering a myriad of skills.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skillshare
