Online Backup Solutions for Final Cut Pro X – which are the best services?
Backing up your files online is becoming cheaper than ever. Amazon just released a service, Amazon Cloud Drive, that provides unlimited storage for US$59.99 per year. I’m gathering some information here from Final Cut Pro Users that I’ve spoken to online about the best online storage for Final Cut Pro X projects so if you have any experience with this then just drop me an e-mail at design@benhalsall.com .
My focus here is on individual editors rather than organisations sharing files.
If you would like to learn about basic backing up in Final Cut Pro X then check out this video of mine on YouTube – Final Cut Pro X: Backup a Project on an External Drive or if you need to clear space before uploading files this may help too – Final Cut Pro X: Clear Space on Your Hard Drive by Deleting Render & Proxy Files .
Amazon Cloud Storage
Storage Capacity: Unlimited
Cost: US$59.99 (3 Month Free Trial)
Availability: US only (in Canada 1000GB will set you back CA$500 / year – ouch)
Tested: I signed up for the trial on the US site and once I’d filled up my 5GB quota I tried to buy the unlimited version but was unceremoniously redirected to the Canadian site without warning only to find out that my dreams were only that. Drop me an email if you’ve used this with FCPX files.
hubiC
Storage Capacity: 10TB
Cost: €50 incl. VAT/year (25 GB free)
Tested: I’ve had some reports that it is difficult to move the .fcpbundle or Library folder onto the server.Drop me an email if you’ve had any experience using this with FCPX files.
Dropbox
Storage Capacity: 1TB (the unlimited business solution requires 5 users)
Cost: US$10 / month
1TB is nor very much but if you are using it for online backup or storage I’d love to hear your comments.

Final Cut Pro X: Keep Your Layers When Deleting Clips #FCPX #layers #tutorial
However many layers you have these three techniques will show you how to keep those layers (aka connected clips) in place when you are deleting clips from your main timeline (aka the main storyline). This is extremely helpful and means you can always keep your titles, audio, image and video layers in place when you are working on your timeline.
If you are interested in bespoke online training for Final Cut Pro X then please get in touch. I also offer in person training in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia & Manitoba near my base in Regina, SK.

Maui surfing research, information & links
Looking for your Maui suggestions!
I’m travelling to Maui in February and am on the hunt for the best swimming a surfing experience so I’m collecting some research here so that I know where the best beginner/intermediate waves are. I’m going to be filming the experience too and uploading it to my YouTube Channel so if any businesses want to feature drop me an e-mail or a tweet.
Living in the Canadian Prairies (previously surfing some beautiful but cold spots on the East Coast of England for many years) I don’t get much surfing in at the moment so I’m hoping for fun waves (nothing too critical) and I will be bringing plenty of Aloha along with me (i.e. no dropping in and no wave hogging).

Launiupoko Beach
Suggested one of the sites above as a good spot for beginners, families with some manageable waves that should be just up my street – https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Launiupoko+Beach+Park/@20.8422029,-156.6530554,294m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x4153c434093ffdf1!6m1!1e1
Launiupoko Beach Report – http://swell.willyweather.com/hi/maui/launiupoko-beach.html
“Launiupoko is perfect. There’s always a consistent wave there. It all depends too. We just got our first big N swell and waves were perfect chest high at Launiupoko.”
